Te Ngira Celebrates Diwali: A Festival of Light and Connection

Te Ngira – Institute for Population Research recently lit up with colour and joy as staff came together to celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights.

The celebration reflects Te Ngira’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural understanding. Colleagues from across Aotearoa and around the world embraced Indian traditions through food, music, saris, bindis, and shared storytelling,  symbolising unity and belonging across cultures.

Diwali represents the triumph of light over darkness and hope over despair. At Te Ngira, it became a moment to connect, learn, and celebrate the rich cultural diversity that strengthens our community.

“Events like this truly reflect the inclusive and welcoming spirit of Te Ngira,” shared one staff member.

Te Ngira proudly supports the University of Waikato’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategy, fostering a workplace where every culture is celebrated and every voice shines.

🪔 Happy Diwali from all of us at Te Ngira — may the year ahead be filled with light, learning, and connection.
