Just days into Vinod’s work-integrated learning internship at Robotics Plus in Tauranga, he was helping develop a hybrid autonomous farm vehicle.

“My summer internship was truly enjoyable. I acquired a wealth of new knowledge and had the opportunity to connect with some amazing individuals,” Vinod says.

A student at the Hamilton campus, Vinod moved to Tauranga for his internship and stayed on-campus at Selwyn Street Studios.

“Thanks to my internship, I was exposed to new challenges and learned many things about how technologically focused businesses work.”

He was also given the opportunity to test drive the unmanned ground vehicle and help out in other teams.

Vinod moved from Sri Lanka to New Zealand in 2018 with a fascination for robotics and engineering. After four years at the university, he joined the workforce as a graduate engineer in the National Grid Assets team at Transpower.
