Tauranga Academic Orientation

Academic Orientation will run over the first week of the Orientation experience and is specifically designed for new students to help you settle into University study. Essential presentations will be hosted on campus so that you get all the information and support you need for your first year of study, as well as plenty of fun activities throughout the week.

9.30am 10.00am Mihi Whakatau: New student welcome & morning tea Te Manawaroa (1.07) Nau mai, haere mai. Your University of Waikato Tauranga journey starts here. We warmly invite you to gather in The Hub on Level 1 before being welcomed by the University's kaumātua and after, invited to enjoy some morning tea. Please bring your own water bottle for the day. 10.00am 11.00am Student Services Te Manawaroa (1.07) Make sure you're ready for study by attending this session. It will cover a whole bunch of topics including: facilities, services and the support systems are available to you. Lynda, Royce & Emma
11.00pm 11.30pm Start Smart: Navigating Moodle, the Library, and Study Skills Te Manawaroa (1.07) Get a head start on your studies. Moodle is our online learning space; all your papers and supporting materials can be found here. Come along to find out what it is, how to use it, how to navigate the Library website and find quality academic resources for assignments. We'll discuss time management, academic integrity, and where to find referencing help and academic learning support. Paul & Elsie
11.30am 12.30pm Cultural Narrative Tour Poutokomanawa, Level 1 The Tauranga Campus was designed with history, heritage and cultural identity carefully integrated into the design. Come along to this tour to unlock the stories told in the carvings and artworks of the campus.Nau mai haere mai Joe
11.30am 12.30pm Campus Clubhouse Campus Clubhouse Discover our Campus Clubhouse, shoot some hoops, pot some balls or play board games! It’s the perfect place to meet new friends and connect with your campus community. Whether you’re looking to unwind or be active, there's something for everyone.

1.00pm 2.00pm Māori ki Waikato kei Tauranga TCBD.2.12 Tūtira mai ngā iwi! E ngā iwi, kia tapatahi, kia kotahi rā ki Te Toka a Tirikawa me Te Kāhui Pīrere! Come along to this session and find out what it means to be part of a Māori community on campus. Sandie
2.00pm 3.00pm Pacific students meet and greet TCBD.2.13 Kia orāna, mālō e lelei, tālofa lava, fakaalofa lahi atu, ni sa bula vinaka, taloha ni, halo olaketa, kia orana, ko na mauri, tālofa, aloha and warm Pacific greetings. Welcome to the University of Waikato! As a Pacific student we are excited that you have chosen to begin your tertiary journey with us. We would to invite you to our Pacific in Tauranga session.
